Story of PodTrapper

New postby marwatk on Sun Jun 21, 2009 8:36 pm

Hi guys,

I just finished an article that talks about PodTrapper and my experiences developing and selling it. My eventual goal is to get on slashdot or digg (or really anything) with it as a way of marketing PodTrapper, but I wanted to share it with you guys first.

Check it out at

and let me know what you think.

WOW, Mr. Marcus,
That was very enlightening and interesting to say the least. Did you happen to use this for getting that degree? Well it all looks so good that I hope you will consider doing another app with the same or MORE success as PodTrapper.
Thought I'd also let you know that since I deleted those three podcasts, that it has cured the problem I had of them trying to download for what seemed an eternity! And I also finally upgraded from 4.3 to 4.5 and everything seems to work wonderfully.
Thanks a million!

Thanks!

If you're bored and you have a slashdot account I'd love it if you'd go here:
http://slashdot.org/popular
or
http://slashdot.org/firehose.pl

And rate my story up (it's titled "An Experiment in BlackBerry Development"). It's like a life goal of mine to get a front page slashdot story :)

Though only rate it up if you got value out of the story, definitely, I don't want to cheat.

Hey Marcus,

Just wanted to let you know your article was very informative and helpful to someone considering blackberry development. I like how you even showed all the pricing / sales graphs and information - usually these types of developer stories leave those out, but I found yours interesting and informative. I will definitely take a few lessons from your story, and hope my application will see as much success as yours! I was wondering what forums/sites did you frequent for coding and development help?

Thanks,

Logan

Hi Logan,

Thanks! The blackberry developer forums are probably the best place to look:

Other than that, just a lot of trial and error :)

Heh. I noticed that on your front page, you had a lot of stats - and that the /. article didn't drive people to try your software. I guess that's not immediately surprising. I finally got a new blackberry that i could actually install software on it now, and now a few days into it i finally downloaded podtrapper. It's awesome! There are definitely features that I miss from my iphone, I definitely prefer the blackberry platform instead. So i might not drag out my CC at 7am, but soon enough.

Thanks! And it was an interesting story :)

Thanks! Now that I'm writing for Android as well I'm kind of torn, there's a LOT you can do over there that can't be done on the BB...
