Can't Download New Episodes...Keeps Prompting For Password

Hi

Since upgrading to Windows 7 I've been unable to download new episodes. I have PodTrapper on my BlackBerry Storm 1 (with 5.0 OS on it) set to only download when connected to the computer. When connected, PodTrapper Desktop Downloader prompts me for my password and says I have 10 attempts remaining. I enter it and hit ok. Ten seconds later it prompts me again, and still says I have 10 attempts remaining. It does this indefinitely and episodes never download.

I tried to send the error logs from the phone, but my company seems to block me from sending it.

Advice?

Thanks!

Hmm, can you send me what it shows in the desktop downloader log window? (You can just post it here if that's easier, though it will expose your PIN)

I think I got it...

I had been getting prompted on my phone every time I started PodTrapper about incorrect security settings. So I'd tell it to show me the security screen. I'd keep everything on Allow. Then I'd click Save. Next time I started PodTrapper it would reprompt me about it. Finally, I just chose the other option so it wouldn't prompt me again. I thought that might have a negative affect because it might never get the proper security settings. Instead it had a positive effect. It no longer prompted me about the security settings and also the issue I described above (where desktop downloader kept prompting me for a password and I never got any podcasts downloaded) disappeared.

I changed this setting right after posting above, so I don't have any log output to show you. The errors were fairly generic like "Unspecified error" and "Can't Connect" (note those weren't the exact errors...just going off of memory).

All seems to be working now though.

Thanks!

Oh Wait!!!! Disregard that last post. I got it to reoccur and I know how!

Ok...It's totally fine, until I start BlackBerry Device Manager and then BlackBerry Desktop Manager. Then it immeadiatly starts prompting me for the password in a loop and nothing gets downloaded. I will email you the log (because of exposing the pin).

Thanks!

Hmm, ok, I'll have to look into that. My guess is the desktop manager is overriding something, but I'll check it out. Thanks for letting me know.

I'm having this same problem. Last week it worked fine, this week it just can't connect. Any resolution or workaround?

Does yours work if the Desktop Manager is closed?

I'm having the same problem. I'm not on Win7 (XP SP3) and I'm running a Storm 2 with 5.0 OS on it. Downloads over WiFi work fine, but at work I use the desktop downloader, but I get stuck in that same password loop. It happens when BB Desktop Manager is not running (I haven't tried it with DTM running). I'm running Desktop Downloader v1.3 and PodTrapper 2.6.7

I'm not seeing the incorrect security setting warning, but I'll go in and see if I can double check the security settings.

Here is the output I see in the Desktop Downloader window (personal data redacted).

Device count > 0
GUID: F8LOTSOFHEXDIGITS
NetworkType: 4
BBPIN: xxxxxxxx
MUX Version: 513
EVDO Modem Version: 256
ESN: -xxxxxxxxx

OS Metrics: ?
Vendor ID: 105
HubAddress: \DosDevices\HCD2\4\1\1
Power: 500
DeviceName: \\?\USB#Vid_0fca&Pid_LOTSOFDIGITS
Opening Channel: PodtrapperUSB
rawOnClose
Unspecified error

If I turn around and cancel it, the desktop downloader starts reporting:

Device count > 0
Ignoring device since password dialog was cancelled.
Disconnect, wait 10 seconds, then reconnect to be asked again.
Device count > 0
Ignoring device since password dialog was cancelled.
Disconnect, wait 10 seconds, then reconnect to be asked again.

Hope that helps get to the bottom of this one.

Just to be clear, that happens to me when DTM is closed.

Hmm, can you try reinstalling the desktop manager (the RIM one) and see if that helps? (Uninstall first)

Well, I uninstalled and reinstalled DTM, made sure I had the latest desktop downloader, etc., but still the same problem. Any other ideas? Only real downside for me is that I don't get Buzz Out Loud updated until I get home to WiFi there, but most of my podcasts aren't daily updates.

Can you go into your app permissions for PodTrapper, set everything to 'Deny', save (which may take a reboot), then set everythign to 'allow' again?

Let me know...

Hmm, well that changed things, but only slightly. Now it goes through the error cycle in the desktop downloader app a bunch of times before it asks for the password, then asks, then errors out multiple times before asking again, but still no good connection, just longer waits between being prompted for the password.

In case any of these differences matter:

Device count > 0
GUID: F84LOTS OF DIGITS
NetworkType: 4
BBPIN: MYPINWASHERE
MUX Version: 513
EVDO Modem Version: 256
ESN: -DIGITS

Vendor ID: 105
HubAddress: \DosDevices\HCD2\4\1\1
Power: 500
DeviceName: \\?\USB#Vid_0fca&Pid_8004&MORESTUFFWASHERE
Opening Channel: PodtrapperUSB
rawOnClose
Unspecified error

Anything else I should try?

- Bill.

Can you shoot me a copy of your logs in PodTrapper itself?

So sadly they didn't show anything out of the ordinary.

Do you by chance have another computer you could load the desktop app on so we can try to narrow it down to either the BB or the desktop?

Hmm, can you try uninstalling the BB desktop manager, rebooting, then reinstalling it?
