Dragon for Email & Podtrapper Playback

New postby ralban on Wed May 12, 2010 5:48 pm

I've observed the following after I installed Dragon for Email (available for free in AppWorld):
When I receive an audible alert (like a new BBM message) while listening to a podcast, PodTrapper pauses playback, and then resumes.

Without Dragon for Email installed:
When I receive an audible alert , the audio alert is mixed in with Podtrapper playback, and the podcast does not pause.

Has anyone else noticed this?

It's pretty hit or miss as to when each happens. The OS doesn't provide any sort of mixer control to determine when other apps are playing, so PodTrapper has to listen for 'unavailable' messages from the player to determine when to stop.

I believe there's a two sound limit to mixing, though, and if Dragon is holding a media resource open it may count as one of them, so that with PT playing there's now three, so one has to be stopped. Not sure how it chooses, though.

At any rate, I'm not sure there's much I can do to work around it, sorry I don't have a better answer for you.

Not a worry. Thanks for the explanation.
The answers is simple. Uninstall Dragon, Podtrapper > Dragon For E-mail
Dragon also seemed to be a battery hog...
