Does anyone else think the icon is over powering?

New postby fonewiz on Sat Jan 17, 2009 3:12 pm

Just as I posted in my last message, I love this product and my comments are only meant to help improve it or at least make it better for me

For some reason, I just hate the Podtrapper icon, it over powers all other icons on my screen and always causes me to almost think it's an error or something it's so big and bright and well, more noticable than every other icon on my BB.

I realize for marketing purposes this may be good but the thing is, I am already sold on Podtrapper, I love it and don't really need the bright orange fireball on my screen to remind me to use it.

If I am the only one this bugs than I will say no more..

If not, would it be possible Mr. Developer to have an option to change the icon to one a little easier on the eyes? Not that I think this should be way up on the priority list or anything but it would just be nice.

Thanks!

I like the icon fine. I have others that are brighter than Podtrapper so its not an issue for me. :)

Hi fonewiz,

It's supposed to be the normal size of other icons (so that the yellow highlighting completely surrounds it). I've heard reports from some users where this isn't the case, but haven't found out why. Can you let me know what model, OS and theme you're running and I'll see if I can reproduce it.

I am using a Bold, running OS .216.

It's normal size, I think it's just the color and the fact that it's completely filled in and all the other icons on the bold are so light and weak :)

I am on the storm and still see the default icon (the empty square box thing).

If you have many other 3rd party apps you will notice not all the icons are subdued outlines like the default bold icons.

The icon is fine IMO.

I have to agree, the icon IS too much.

I like the subdued Bold/Storm icons. Icons that are not similar are foldered away.

Question is: can we have icon selection? An perfect example of this is the Crackberry Wap launcher (not the app store). If you install the CB launcher, you can go to Options > CrackBerry Launcher and select which icon you want to use, although they are just different colors.

Just a thought to appease the masses. :ugeek:

It's ok (albeit too large on the storm - it should probably be 75% of the size it is currently). That icon is more associated with RSS than with podcasts. Some less bright alternatives using the more typical podcast symbol could be:

Agreed.

Is it please possible to have an icon more fitting with the style of the other built in icons?

The over powering bright big orange icon is the only thing putting me off putting it on my home screen - it's just too over powering compared to the other "wire-frame" icons....

Attached my screen (Bold, 4.6 OS) to demonstrate the point.

Cheers

Ouch, that's a bit insane. It should be only taking up about 60% of the available size, but for some reason it's not. I had no idea it was *that* bad :)

I'll definitely look into it. (New icons are coming in 1.7.0 tomorrow).

Tis the same on my Bold, however I have PodTrapper set to my right hand convenience button so I leave the icon in the downloads folder :D
BTW When I use my Task Switcher I still get the default application icon, not the actual icon. But all this is nothing really too important.

Hey guys, so I just released 1.7.0, can you check it out on your bolds (or storms if anyone has one) and see if it's better?
