Messages breaks through Key Lock

New postby Loopy on Wed Jan 21, 2009 3:57 pm

I have Messages set to my Left Side Convenience Key.

When I press that button while in Key Lock mode, Messages opens.

Hi Loopy,

I thought I had that nailed down, can you let me know what model and OS you're on and I'll check it out in the simulator?

Thanks,

Just wanted to let you know this is fixed in 1.6.5, which is in PreRelease right now, but available for testing if you like.

Well, it kinda works.

If:

a) I'm in Podtrapper Key Lock

and

b) The screen is off from the backlight timeout

...and then I press the Left Convenience key (that's set to messages)... the messages app will be launched.

If the screen is on (not timed-out) then pressing Messages does not launch Messages, and Podtrapper Key Lock works as expected.

Yeah, that's a big hole I can't fill, sadly.

When the screen goes dark, it's actually giving focus to another app (probably the home screen, but I can't be sure). That means that this built in RIM app gets first dibs on the key presses, and it knows how to handle convenience keys, so I can't short circuit it.

The only option I've got is to keep the screen on, but that'll kill battery life, so I'm not sure it's a viable option.
