A specific podcast's episode list is always janked

New postby Loopy on Sat Feb 14, 2009 10:48 am

I subscribe to one podcast, Coast to Coast AM, which I pay a monthly fee for... and therefore have a username and password included in its setting.

I also have one podcast where the episode list is all crazy with repeats. And that podcast is Coast to Coast AM! I don't know if the fact that it uses login information is related to the bug, or just a coincidence.

Each day, Coast to Coast releases 4 episodes, hour 1 - 4 from the previous night's radio show. The episode list *should* something like this:

Coast to Coast - Feb. 13 - Hour 1
Coast to Coast - Feb. 13 - Hour 2
Coast to Coast - Feb. 13 - Hour 3
Coast to Coast - Feb. 13 - Hour 4
Coast to Coast - Feb. 12 - Hour 1
Coast to Coast - Feb. 12 - Hour 2
Coast to Coast - Feb. 12 - Hour 3
Coast to Coast - Feb. 12 - Hour 4
Coast to Coast - Feb. 11 - Hour 1
Coast to Coast - Feb. 11 - Hour 2
Coast to Coast - Feb. 11 - Hour 3
Coast to Coast - Feb. 11 - Hour 4
etc...

Or, a condensed representation:

Coast to Coast - Feb. 13 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 12 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 11 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 10 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 9 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 8 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 7 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 6 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 5 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 4 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 3 (4 episodes)

But... here is what my Podtrapper's episode list currently looks like:

Coast to Coast - Feb. 13 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 12 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 11 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 10 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 9 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 8 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 7 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 12 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 11 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 10 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 9 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 8 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 7 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 6 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 11 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 10 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 9 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 8 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 7 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 6 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 5 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 9 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 8 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 7 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 6 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 5 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 4 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 3 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 8 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 7 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 6 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 5 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 4 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 3 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 2 (4 episodes)
Coast to Coast - Feb. 3 (4 episodes)

It seems to somehow forget or lose track of previous episodes when it updates the episode list or something.

Some podcasts do this, unfortunately. It's caused by the authors updating the URL for old episodes, which PodTrapper sees as a new episode. Can you look at two of the duplicates and see if they do indeed have different urls? (You can see the urls by scrolling all the way to the bottom of the episode detail screen).

If that's not the case, definitely let me know.

Here's a feature suggestion that would address this issue:

In Edit Podcast, add an option that allows you to pick [URL] or [Name] to match podcasts when determining new episodes.

That's actually a really good (and simple) idea I can't believe I didn't think of.

Thanks!

I'll add it to the next release.
