Saving data at exit is taking a long time

New postby chuvisco on Tue Dec 09, 2008 10:26 am

I just found PodTrapper, and it seems to be working pretty well--I really like the automagical podcast delivery. I have run into a bug:

I went to exit the application this morning, and the "Please wait while data is being saved" counter is at about 25000, and if the progress bar is accurate, it looks like it might reach 100000. For background, I added four new podcasts last night and they updated overnight without issue, I deleted one this morning, and 3 of the 8 currently downloaded podcasts are paused. I have a 1 GB uSD card that is mostly empty, and I am using an 8330 with 4.5.0.97 on Verizon.

Hi,

That should have been fixed in the latest version (I ran into that bug too, it's an issue where the player doesn't properly close and so it waits endlessly for it to do so). It's not really doing anything when it's counting other than waiting for stuff to shut down properly, and the latest version kills itself after a certain amount of time (or so I thought, if you're using the latest).

Can you look in the 'About' screen and see what version you're running? If it's the latest I'll dig in again and see where the bug lies.

v. 1.1.1, which I believe should be up to date.

With the exception of that time this morning, it has been closing after counting to about 5 or so.

Hi again,

Yeah, it's rare that it happens, but sounds like there's still an issue tucked in there somewhere. I'll investigate it and let you know when I've got a resolution.

Let me know if you see any other issues while using it.

That problem has happened one more time, and now I'm running into an issue where some of my podcasts aren't playing. Actually, I can cycle through them and it's not always the same ones that don't play.

Did you remove battery?
I have to do it every couple of days.

Hi guys,

I just finished up the fix for the shutdown bug, but wanted to get more details on the playing and needing to restart thing.

On the player not playing episodes, can you describe what happens and what actions you follow to make it happen? I tried all sorts of stuff from my end but I can't duplicate it.

Also, hunberry, on the restart thing, do you pull the battery specifically because of podtrapper? If so, what symptoms do you get that prompts pulling it?

Let me know and I'll try to figure out where it's going wrong...

Marcus,

I still remove batery every couple of days, because
PodTrapper sometimes stops downloading new podcast items.
Log shows "Download succeeded complete."

:/

And exiting and coming back in doesn't fix it?

The next time that happens can you use the 'Send logs' menu item to shoot me a copy of the logs?

It shouldn't be happening, so I'd definitely like to try to get to the bottom of it.

I suspected that there might be an issue with my media card, so I'm going to reformat it and possibly try a different card. I'll let you know if I see the not playing problem again.

Hi Marcus,

Since upgrading to 1.1.2, I haven't seen the saving data at exit hang.

Also, after reformatting the uSD card (on the phone this time), I haven't had any problems playing podcasts.

Hi Hunberry,

Next time you run into this can you send the logs to me? This is core functionality so I really want to make sure it's as solid as possible.

Follow these steps to send the logs:
From the main screen, hit the menu and choose 'View Downloads'
From this screen, hit the menu and choose 'Send logs'
From this screen hit the menu and choose 'Send'

(This shows me more than is otherwise seen in the log viewer).
