Any way of getting older podcasts (a la Google Reader)?

New postby sperho on Mon Jun 01, 2009 6:29 pm

When I use PT to subscribe to this feed http://feeds.feedburner.com/avrant, it stops indexing around episode 101 (I can't remember exactly.). If I look at this feed with Google Reader, I can scroll down and it keeps digging and digging until I get to the beginning of time for this feed. Is there any way that PT can do that? I've been downloading the files manually, but having the metadata is a very nice thing... That, and manual downloading is BO-RING! Thanks...

Q: Why do I want this?

A: I'm in the process of listening to this entire library and I'll probably listen to some other libraries as well...

You can configure the max it'll read from a feed in the Storage Settings screen, but I don't recommend setting it too high on the older devices since it could easily overwhelm their ram. After setting it perform an "Update and sort" and it'll get them all back in the proper order.

Let me know if that doesn't work for you.

I set both 'Downloaded episodes to keep' and 'Max to auto-download' to 100. I also set 'Update Frequency' to Manual. I then saved my settings, and tried a manual update, but nothing came down the pipe...

Edit: I deleted the podcast altogether and re-added it and set both things that I listed above to 100 again. I updated the podcast and it only found as many as it did before (about 19 or so).

Hi sperho,

The setting you're looking for is Settings -> Storage Settings -> Max episodes to read from feed.

Let me know if that doesn't work for you.

Ah, I probably should have looked at the feed earlier. It looks like that feed only publishes around 20 episodes at time. Google reader may cache a lot of the older ones, but in my experience any episodes not published in the feed generally aren't available on the server either (and thus can't be downloaded). It sounds like this one may be an exception, but unfortunately PT doesn't have a way to look up the old episode details :(
