Cant Search Podcasts using browser

New postby PeterDelve on Thu Jun 18, 2009 3:14 pm

I cant search for podcasts using the browser even though I have registered podtrapper. I have reinstalled podtrapper and also tried the lastest version but still can access the internet from the menu 'Add Podcast', 'Browser/Search'.

Any ideas.

Thanks

Pete

Hi Pete, can you describe what happens when you try? Some users have reported that changing the default browser by following these steps:

- Go to browser
- (Menu) Options
- General Properties
- Default Browser

There should be a few options there, you can try each one and see if that fixes it. Let me know what you see if they don't fix it.

Tried changing the browser setting but still cant add any podcasts.

When I select 'add podcast' from the menu... then select 'browser/search' nothing happens.

Make sure you go to the browser from when podtrapper initiates it.

One time I was browsing and then exited (to make a call or something) and then came back to the browser and I couldn't get the "add pocast" menu option.
When I went back to podtrapper and found the podcast again it worked.

There is definitely something special about the session when podtrapper starts it.

I haven't been able to figure out what this is caused by. If anyone else is seeing it please let me know what OS and model you're on so I can try to track down a pattern.

In the mean time I've implemented the following workaround for anyone seeing it.

You can access PodTrapper's podcast browser at the following url:
http://ota.versatilemonkey.com/ptbrowse/browse.pl

You can use that in opera or the BB browser. Once you get to a podcast if you scroll down on the screen that says "To subscribe to this podcast use the item in the Blackberry menu". Scroll down to the bottom and the Feed URL should be displayed. You can copy and paste that into PodTrapper's manual entry screen.

Sorry for the kludge, definitely keep letting me know if you see the issue so I can try to track it down.

I have the same problem:
Blackberry 9530 (Storm, bought at Verizon a couple weeks ago)
v4.7.0.148

I have only the default BB browser installed, so it's likely not a "you picked the wrong browser" problem.

The only thing I can think of that I may have done was not-quite-enable all the permissions changes that were requested in the beginning. I am a BB newbie and am a bit paranoid.

I will reset permissions to full Allow and quickpull it to see if it helps.

aha!

Works now! I set my permissions to full Allow, and now it launches the browser just fine. Now I'm just sorry I didn't check what my settings were before.

What are the minimal permission settings that should keep Podtrapper working?

BTW, I'm still a trial user, but I'm sold.

Thanks, that helps.

Though I think there may still be an issue somewhere, I swear we've tried the permissions thing for other users. Anyone still having the problem after setting everything to allow?

Here are the permissions I know about:
http://www.versatilemonkey.com/wiki/Pod ... issions.3F

Though that doesn't cover whatever permission is causing this browser issue, the docs don't outline a permission that would prevent or allow that.

If you're ever bored it would be cool if you could isolate exactly what permission causes the browser launching to break.
