Yet another PodTrapper beta

Hi guys,

http://ota.versatilemonkey.com/beta/

I've stopped working on features for the moment to get bug fixes and usability improvements done and get a solid release ready for production (it's been since May that I released a new version).

Here are the changes in this one:
* Setting to impersonate iTunes for podcasts that serve different content to different clients
* Always bring PodTrapper to the front on resume if video is playing
* Fixed: Episodes not deleted if last item in playlist
* Handle more places to get the description of an episode
* Display the description in place of the subtitle if there's no subtitle
* Exiting out of the add/sort dialog should prompt to save sort settings
* "Don't show this again" box for the IT Policy warning during start up
* Attempt at narrowing down playback control issue

mtech, I tried to fix the playback issue you're having, but since the thread is just stopping there's a wide range of places it could be having issues. I took a few steps to plug holes I saw, but more importantly I put in narrower logging to help see where it's dieing. Give it a shot and let me know.

LOL, just about typical for me :D Getting slow in my old age. But at least that is a good sing that things are pretty solid :)

I just updated my 8900 to 5.0 and have the following cosmetic bug. The highlight bar does not function correctly on the second and third item on any list when rolling the track ball down. When rolling the trackball back up it works properly. The following image shows the problem.

Image
row 1 is rolling the trackball down
row 2 is rolling the trackball back up

Here is a picture of the second item in a playlist.

Just to let you know. I ran this on 4.6 before I upgaded and had no problems.

Hi Tripper,

It's an OS bug as far as I can tell. I don't actually do any drawing of the focus rect, it's all handled by the theme. Plus you'll notice that it only happens when you scroll up, not down (which is all handled by the OS as well). I keep meaning to file a bug with RIM on it, but keep forgetting.

I kind of figured that was the case. Went back to 4.6. Just to many bugs in 5.0.

Has there been a notification system added in this version? I keep getting my LED flashing when i am in PodTrapper, I send to background to look at what mail has come in and there is nothing.. and the LED stops flashing...

It was added a couple of beta versions ago. Go into your profiles (normal,loud,etc..) and you can access the notification options.

This is what i get for not keeping up to date ;) Thanks Tripper.. sounds an odd one to me, but I guess it's useful for something? News casts maybe??

It's intended use was to notify when downloads were finished. Like earlier on, when all podcasts were downloaded at once which could be a long time. Only thing is, is that it chimes after each episode that's downloaded.

Actually it's the opposite... it only happens when scrolling down, not up. I upgraded to OS 5.0 on my 8900 this week and ran into the same problem. Not a showstopper though!

Actually I tracked this down and was able to fix it. My bad for blaming RIM, it was me (sort of. It's a bit of both, their API changed behavior, but the documentation for is ambiguous enough that both behaviors 'fit').

At any rate, I'm sure someone's going to find a bug in 2.5 and I'll be releasing 2.5.1 shortly, and it'll be in there. Otherwise look for a 2.6 beta soon.
