Sync Issues

Sync Issues

New postby ylexot on Mon Aug 10, 2009 1:44 pm

As I mentioned before, I have a Storm and my fiance has a Curve (8330). Both are on Verizon. We've been trying to sync for a while now including using the menu command to sync and so far only one sync message has gotten from her Curve to my Storm. I did notice one thing though...looking at the sent messages, her Curve displays my name in the To field. My messages displays "HoneyDew User" in the To field. Any ideas?

BTW, I had an idea for a feature that I think would be useful..."Request sync". There's no way for me to grab the information off of her phone remotely (at least, I'd hope there isn't a security flaw like that). Instead, it might be nice to be able to send a message to your partner asking them to send you a sync message to ensure that you have the latest shopping list/etc.

A possible solution to the request synch is that instead, when the receiving app receives a synch, if there are unsynched changes locally, it could send those back to the original. That way it would result in a fully synched set on both copies.

That sounds like a good implementation idea.

That's actually how it works now. If, upon receiving a sync, you have changes that your partner isn't aware of, a second sync (labeled HoneyDew Sync Update 2) is fired back. So, basically, forcing a sync on either side brings both sides in sync.

I'm curious about the PINs not going out. Did they ever get sent?

They show up in my messages with a check mark next to them, but no D or R over the check like I usually get with BB Messenger messages.

BTW, I upgraded this morning from 0.0.1 to 0.0.9. We'll see if that makes any difference.

Hmm, we run in to this occasionally too, but they usually end up showing the 'D' eventually. Have you double checked the PINs in your settings to make sure they match up ok?

There actually was a problem with BB Messenger too. However, once that got cleared up, the messages still didn't go correctly. I got a sync message from her, but my sync messages show up as delivered, but aren't on her phone :?: Yes, I have the PIN correct. I used copy and paste from her profile to HoneyDew. Also, now that I have linked her PIN in BB Messenger to her in Contacts, the send messages have her name instead of HoneyDew User. Very strange that the messages show up as delivered on my phone, but are not received on her phone...

Yeah, that's a bit odd. If you manually compose a PIN message using the PIN copied from HoneyDew (not going through the addressbook, for example), does it do the same thing?

Ok, it seems to be an issue with PIN messaging. Her messages make it to me, but my messages to her do not. They show up with a D (delivered), but do not make it to R (received) even though she does not actually get the message. I'll do some searching on my own, but any ideas what could be wrong and how to fix it?

Nevermind...I found the problem. She had the firewall set to block PIN messages

Works great now! Thanks!

Heh, that's actually useful for me, so I'm glad you found it. I didn't even know there was an option for that. I'm sure others will run in to it.
