Beta version 3.0.20: slower than v2.6.7

New postby EliezerB on Thu May 12, 2011 11:46 am

I just upgraded from v2.6.7 to beta v3.0.20 and PodTrapper is now noticably slower than with my previous version. When I'm going between screens or clicking something in PodTrapper, it frequently says: Podtrapper is Starting with a lag. With the older version - that wasn't the case at all. (Wouldn't "Podtrapper is working" make more sense?...)

I installed the beta version labeled "for OS 4.5 or above" and have a BlackBerry (8330m, CDMA, v4.5.0.138, Platform 3.4.0.30).

Thanks,
Eliezer

I was having the same problem, to the point that my entire BB Storm 2 became practically inoperable.

While PodTrapper slowed down to the point where I had at LEAST a 10 second delay on any input I made (play, pause, menu, etc.), the rest of the Blackberry slowed down considerably as well. I use MeterBerry to track my stats, and, oddly, instead of showing a huge memory leak that I expected, for some reason I was somehow GAINING huge memory - for example, my Blackberry has around 68mb of free application memory space. Yet, after a day with no battery pull, I somehow would GAIN 22mb and it would claim my memory was at 90mb (but in App World, it would still show 68mb). It acts like a memory leak, but seems to confuse the heck out of the blackberry.

So, after a month of struggling with it, I reverted back to the last release version - 3.0.6 - and while that has its own problems, it at least is back to working with no lag in either PodTrapper or the Blackberry itself.

Is there anywhere where we can download previous betas? It seemed like my only option to revert was to go all the way back to 3.0.6. 3.0.16 seemed to work just fine for me...

Update: I'm still using v3.0.20 and the speed is now normal - it seemed like after the first 6 hours or so it got better. Dunno...

Hmm, I'm not sure what's up there. I'll profile it on the BB and see what I can find...

Further info - since switching back to the last release version, it is MUCH better. It still isn't perfect, still have periods of general sluggishness and get the BB spinning clock occasionally. I wonder if it is some conflict between Podtrapper and some other new program that is generally slowing my BB down (I do not actually know what I am talking about, so if that isn't possible, sorry).

Regardless - this is the best podcasting program, and the one program I cannot live without, so I am dealing with it until my discount at Verizon kicks in and I can get a new BB.

I should add too that I have also caught it GAINING memory again, but more in the range of 1 or 2mb now, instead of 20+mb when I was running 3.0.20.

Hmm, so 3.0.6 is better, memory-wise than 3.0.20? It should be the other way around :(
